August 9, 2016 – Rattler Volleyball started off the season with wins across the board by Varsity, JV and Freshman teams. Varsity Volleyball took down the Bears in 3 games, scoring 25-17, 25-13, and 25-22.
Terrence Thomas from the Express News reported on the match (click here for original story). “Reagan’s Izzy De La Rosa isn’t sure where the time has gone. One moment, she’s a freshman trying to contribute to a senior-laden squad that fell one win shy of advancing to the UIL state tournament. The next, she’s the one expected to help provide the guidance. De La Rosa’s change in roles, though, hasn’t altered the end result — the Rattlers, once again, look poised for another promising season. Displaying its depth and versatility, No. 2 Reagan breezed past No. 10 Brennan 25-17, 25-13, 25-22 on Monday in the season opener for both at Littleton Gym. “It’s a lot different,” De La Rosa said of being a team leader. “The expectations, they’re a lot higher. I have to make sure everybody stays together and focused. But it’s a lot of fun.”
With Camryn Ennis, De La Rosa, Elissa Barbosa, Nika Burja and Kaja Burja each providing attacking, Reagan was in control throughout. And when they stumbled — the Rattlers trailed 5-1 to start the third set — they quickly turned things around. Brennan led 20-19 in the final frame before Reagan scored six of the final eight points to prevail. “The chemistry’s going to start building more,” De La Rosa said. “We were a little rough today, but I know it’s going to get better.”
Next up for the Rattlers is the Adidas Texas Volleyball Invitational hosted by the Pearland ISD. Over 80 teams from across the state of Texas compete for the championship of the nation’s largest high school volleyball tournament. The tournament takes place Thursday, August 11 – Saturday, August 13. Watch Rattlersports Scoreboard for updates.
