Congrats to Varsity Volleyball! They defeated the Smithson Valley Rangers 3 -0 Tuesday night in the first round of the UIL State Volleyball Championship.
SA Express News – Reagan swept Smithson Valley 25-17, 25-13, 25-21. With a roster devoid of extensive postseason experience — Tori Hinojosa, Isabell DeLaRosa and Adrianna Knutson were either starters or key contributors on last year’s regional finalist team — the Rattlers (36-10) didn’t show their age.
Reagan took control at the start of each set, needing only to fend off a late rally by Smithson Valley in the final frame to prevail.
“It’s just really stressful at first, but I think when you have confidence in your team, and you know that everybody on your team will do their job, it gets easier to deal with the stress,” Reagan senior middle blocker Mackenna Wollet said. “We just get way more comfortable once we get into it.”
Freshman Elissa Barbosa had 14 kills to lead a balanced attack for Reagan. DeLaRosa had 10 kills, and Faith Squier and Camryn Ennis each tallied nine.
The Rattlers will take on the Clark Cougars on Friday, November 7 at 6:00 pm in the Littleton Gym at Blossom Athletic Center. Click here to view the UIL State Volleyball Championship Brackets. Strike ’em Rattlers!
