Reagan senior Ryan Martinez has officially committed to continue her diving career at the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) in San Antonio, where she will compete on the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard under Coach Jim Zagaria.
Martinez is a four-year varsity member of the Reagan Swim and Dive program and has been a consistent postseason qualifier throughout her high school career. She is a four-time district qualifier and has once again advanced to the regional meet for the fourth consecutive year. In addition to competing for Reagan, Martinez dives year-round with Alamo Area Aquatics Diving.
What started as “cool tricks” off the diving board at a community pool has grown into a college scholarship, a testament to Ryan’s hard work, perseverance, and dedication—truly embodying Coach Davidson’s saying: “You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.”
“Ryan is not only an outstanding diver on the Reagan Aquatics team, but she is an amazing young lady who has such a bright future,” said Reagan head coach Michael Rourke. “She is a selfless teammate whose encouragement and positive example lift those around her. She is a lead-by-example athlete due to her character, work ethic, and overall sense of positive leadership. Through her commitment and integrity, she has proudly carried on the tradition of excellence at Reagan Aquatics.”
Beyond the pool, Martinez has demonstrated excellence as a well-rounded student-athlete. She played basketball for three years, including one varsity, letter-earning season, and was named District 28-6A Academic All-District in both 2024 and 2025.
At UIW, Martinez plans to major in nursing and ultimately pursue a career as a nurse midwife, combining her athletic discipline with a passion for helping others.
Congratulations to Ryan on her commitment, and best of luck as she continues her academic and athletic journey at the next level!
