Reagan Wrestling opened their tournament season at the Brawl on Stahl with JV competing Friday and Varsity competing yesterday. Varsity Boys took 6th place with 88.5 points and Varsity Girls took 8th place with 39 points.
The boys were led by Senior Captain Max Pechman who placed 1st at 113# and scored 21.5 team points. His first match was the toughest – Pechman scored a 3 point takedown in the first period, and held his Steele opponent scoreless the remainder of the match, winning 3-0. He breezed through the semi-final match with a first period pin and then easily won the finals with an 18-2 tech fall in the third period.
Junior Eliel Flores earned 2nd place at 157# and tallied 18 team points. His first 7-0 victory put him in the quarterfinals, and he pinned his next 2 opponents to make it to the finals. He dropped this match to earn 2nd place.
Sophomore Zayden Hernandez placed 3rd at 106# earning 11 team points. Hernandez dropped his first match, but battled up the backside of the bracket with two tech falls (16-1 and 16-0) to medal.
On Friday Boys and Girls JV competed and earned several medals: FIRST PLACE: Deras, Garza, Kazzi, Melendez, Sprague, Wirkus-Camacho ; SECOND PLACE: Benne, Jimenez, Moreno, Norred, Vo, Young; THIRD PLACE: Pellicer-Cruz, Ramirez, Varkey.
Next up a busy week as Reagan hosts a Tri-Dual vs. Long Creek and Judson on Wednesday November 20th at 4pm in the Rattler Den, and then heads to Churchill for the Charger Classic with JV competing on Friday November 22nd at 4pm and Varsity on Saturday November 23rd, 9:00am start.
