It was a great day as Reagan boys crushed the competition at the Roosevelt Rough Rider Invitational yesterday – taking first place out of 28 teams with 136 points; a huge 16 points ahead of the second place team.
Junior Jimmy Benne earned 1st place at 138#, scoring 26 team points. After pinning his first 3 opponents, Benne won the finals match with an 8-2 decision.
Junior Sawyer Peevy earned 2nd place at 220#, scoring 20 team points. Peevy won his first 3 matches by 7-0 decision, pin and 4-0 decision, but fell just short in the finals match.
Sophomore Connor O’Brien earned 2nd place at 113#, scoring 19 team points. O’Brien received a bye and won his next two matches with a 9-0 major decision and a pin, but lost the finals match.
Freshman Max Pechman earned 2nd place at 106#, scoring 14 team points. After receiving a bye, Pechman won his next match by 12-5 decision, but fell short in the finals.
Junior Nathan Crawford earned 3rd place at 195#, scoring 16 team points. After receiving a bye, Crawford dropped his first match, but showed incredible grit by winning his next 4 matches to take 3rd place.
Junior Nathan Almaguer earned 4th place at 152#, scoring 17 team points. After taking a bye, Almaguer pinned his next 2 opponents before losing in the semifinal. He pinned his next opponent but lost the 3rd place match by decision.
On the girls side, Reagan placed 9th out of 26 teams. Junior Paris Gonzales took home 1st place at 165#. Gonzales pinned her first 3 opponents in the first period, and in the finals match also won by pin – earning the Rattlers 28 of their 40 points.
Reagan hosts Johnson in a dual meet this Thursday, December 9th at 4:00pm. The Rattlers will then compete in the Russ Pederson Invitational at Johnson High School – JV on Friday, December 10th starting at 3:00pm and Varsity on Saturday, December 11th starting at 8:30am.
