Excellence on and off the course is what these athletes are about. First on the course, all Reagan teams JV-V dominated the meet in Floresville, and they walked away with the champion plaques and lots of hardware.
As parents and spectators, we love to see our Rattlers win- We are the team to be feared; but also, we are the team to step up and help those in need.
The city of Floresville had excessive heat warnings and several competitor athletes were taken by ambulances to the hospital. The heat was dangerously high.
Rattler athletes recognized needs and engaged. Varsity athlete, Ethan Doyle, saw a competitor down from the heat and was quick to react, getting her water and help from trainers and her coach. Many of our athletes were seen encouraging other runners to keep pressing on, handing out water, spraying cool down water, and cheering for those outside our Rattler family. Summit High school parent, Mary, made a point to let us know what she had seen our Rattler athletes do. She was impressed with our runners reaching out and encouraging competitors from different teams. “They sure made a world of difference to that athlete, and it sets such a cool tone for the meet. We can encourage competitors.”
One of our own athletes ran through the finish line with determination and speed only to collapse from the heat. Varsity athlete, Brandon Lynch, took action assisting his teammate and helping him into an ice bath to help lower his core temperature and then accompanied him to the hospital. Said runner is okay and is expected to be back to running after some rest and hydration.
These acts of kindness and mercies are what makes Reagan superior. Yes, we are fast and yes, we win… but the character these athletes demonstrate far exceeds their winning athletic performances. Way to go Reagan runners, we see you.
We are proud of you.
Keep leading the way on and off the course.
WE ARE REAGAN!
