Modisette, Reagan avenge loss to Johnson

Reagan forward Ariel Modisette scored two first-half goals.

When Reagan junior Taylor Olson scored a little less than four minutes into Tuesday’s District 26-6A showdown with Johnson, the scenario was familiar.

Senior forward Ariel Modisette, though, made sure the outcome wasn’t.

Modisette scored two first-half goals, propelling the No. 1 Rattlers to a 4-1 victory over No. 2 Johnson at Blossom Soccer Stadium.

Reagan avenged a 2-1 loss against its rival on Feb. 5, a game in which Johnson rallied after allowing a goal only 40 seconds into the contest.

“This time we didn’t let it happen,” Modisette said. “I think today we thought, ‘Can’t just stop after one goal. We’ve got to keep it up, keep it up.’ ”

The pressure unleashed by Reagan (13-2 overall, 7-1 in district) quickly help it gain control. But it was Modisette who provided the pivotal moment, netting two goals less than 10 minutes apart in the first half, sending the Rattlers into halftime with a 3-0 advantage.

“I love scoring,” said Modisette, who has 11 goals, second on the team. “I haven’t score in a few games. I really wanted to win. I had to fight for that goal.”

Johnson (13-3-1, 6-2), which dropped into third place behind co-leaders Reagan and MacArthur (14-3, 7-1), pulled within 3-1 in the 50th minute when senior Courtney Trimble scored unassisted, her 21st goal of the season.

But that was as close as the Jaguars would get. Reagan tacked on another score, with Lauren Anderson scoring in the 76th minute.
