The 2nd Annual Diamondbacker Invitational was a smashing success last weekend…in more ways than one!
The Rattlers had a fantastic showing in the tournament! They kicked off with an impressive 65-32 win over Cedar Park in a packed Rattler Den on Friday. Thank you to the Band and all the students who came out to show support…the energy in the gym was awesome!
Going into Saturday, the team faced a tough Rockwall team in the second round. A strong defensive effort and unselfish play boosted the Rattlers to a 65-56 victory to clench their spot in the championship game.
The final game came down to Reagan versus Round Rock, and it was the Rattlers time to shine! After a tough loss to Round Rock the previous weekend, the boys were primed for redemption. They came into the game firing on all cylinders. Reagan established their lead early in the first half and never looked back. They earned the championship trophy, defeating the Dragons 54-42!
Congratulations to seniors Luke Mills and Luke Price for making the All Tournament Team as well as a huge shout out junior Aidan Richard, who was selected as the Tournament MVP!
Putting on an successful event like the Diamondbacker Invitational doesn’t just happen…Hosting a group of elite teams from around the state requires lots of coordination and planning! Thank you to the MANY the volunteers who made this tournament possible! We appreciate everyone — especially our basketball parents Grizelda Chapa and Miranda Richard — for all of their hard work.
The Rattlers have a bye this week in district play. Their next match up will be against Marshall at Blossom on Tuesday, December 20 at 1:30 p.m.
Strike ’em!
