A 3 day delay due to the freezing weather and school cancellations did not stop the Rattler Boys Wrestling Team Saturday as they won the District 15-6A Tournament for the third year running with a team point total of 226.5 – a solid 42.5 points ahead of 2nd place Johnson. The Rattlers qualified 13 wrestlers for the UIL Region 4-6A Tournament to be held at Jimmy Littleton gym Friday, February 10th and Saturday February 11th.
Senior Sawyer Peevy (215#) is your District Champion, scoring 25 team points. Peevy was also awarded the Most Outstanding Wrestler Award of the Tournament. Peevy received a bye, and won the quarters with a first period pin and the semis by an 8-0 major decision. The finals match was scoreless going into the 3rd period where Peevy pulled out an escape 45 seconds in, was able to hold his opponent off for the next 1:15 and won by an exciting 1-0 decision.
Senior Jimmy Benne (144#) is your District Champion, scoring 25.5 team points. After receiving a bye, Benne tech-pinned his opponent in the quarters and teched his opponent 17-1 in the semis. In the finals Benne gave up a takedown a minute in, and that was the only time he trailed the entire match, which he eventually won 10-7.
Junior Bryce Whitethorn (120#) is your District Champion, scoring 22 team points. Whitethorn received a bye, won his Semifinal match with a 6-0 decision and his finals match by Medical Forfeit.
Junior Leo Bisesi (285#) earned 2nd place and scored 20 team points.
Senior Nathan Almaguer (165#) earned 3rd place and scored 20 team points.
Senior Jack Balfour (157#) earned 3rd place and scored 14 team points.
Junior Anthony Castro (190#) earned 3rd place and scored 19 team points.
Junior Connor O’Brien (126#) earned 3rd place and scored 18 team points.
Junior Marcos Pimentel (175#) earned 3rd place and scored 10 team points.
Senior Johnny Rivera (132#) earned 4th place and scored 13 team points.
Junior Ben Taylor (113#) earned 4th place and scored 12 team points.
Sophomore Ben Brown (106#) earned 4th place and scored 16 team points.
Sophomore Grant Schneiders (150#) earned 4th place and scored 12 team points.
