Spielmann places 4th at UIL State Championship

February 18, 2024

On Thursday, 4 wrestlers (2 boys and 2 girls) traveled to the Berry Center in Houston for the 2024 UIL 6A State championship tournament with two ultimately being able to compete.

Sophomore Shobhana Spielmann, competing in the 107 weight class, finished in 4th place, improving on her 8th place finish last year. After pinning her first opponent, she went 3 rounds for only the 3rd time all season and won her quarterfinals match 8-5. After dropping her semifinals match to the eventual champion from Allen, she made quick work of her consolation semifinal opponent to make it into the 3rd place match. She battled a very good senior from Buda Johnson with whom she had traded pins in 2 previous meetings ultimately coming up short to secure her 4th place podium finish. She is now a two time State podium finisher.

Junior Grant Schneiders (144) competing in his first state tournament, had a good showing against very tough competition.  He dropped his first and third match to podium finishers (4th place and 6th place respectively) scoring points in both matches before ultimately falling, and  pinned his first consolation bracket opponent.

We are so proud of all our wrestlers.  See you on the mat next year!
