SENIOR GRANT SCHNIEDERS TAKES 5TH AT CY FAIR!

January 6, 2025

Often referred to as the pre-quel to the UIL State Tournament, the Cy Fair Invitational is a grueling two-day competition that is the largest High School tournament in the nation. Athletes from 113 High Schools made the trip to the Berry Center in Cypress to compete over 2 days with the best of the best. The Rattler Boys’ team placed 17th out of 113 teams with a total of 90 points and the Girls placed 39th out of 109 teams with 54 team points.

SENIOR CAPTAIN GRANT SCHNIEDERS (144#) brought home the individual Fifth Place medal in his 64 man bracket, contributing 20.5 team points. Day one Schnieders went 4-0, cruising to the semi-finals with a tech fall, a pin, a 5-1 decision and an 18-13 decision. Day two he dropped the semi-final match by a narrow 8-11 decision, coming back from a 4-10 deficit in the third period and just running out of time. After dropping the consolation semi-final, Schnieders showed grit and resilience in the fifth place match by pinning his opponent early in the 2nd period. This victory tallies 99 Varsity wins for Schnieders – we look forward to seeing him hit the 100th win this week!

Looking ahead, the Varsity team is gearing up for a dual meet against Smithson Valley this Thursday, January 9th at 4:30 pm, so mark your calendars! And don’t miss the annual Gillespie Classic Tournament hosted at Reagan this weekend, where Junior Varsity kicks off on Friday at 3 pm and Varsity competes on Saturday at 8:30 am. Be sure to come out and cheer on the Rattler wrestlers as they continue their season!
