Last week Senior Captain Grant Schnieders achieved a remarkable milestone, earning his 100th Varsity victory during the opening dual of the annual Gillespie Tournament. Schnieders’ journey into wrestling was inspired by his cousins, who have been involved in the sport since childhood. “Wrestling has taught me that nothing comes without hard work, and there’s no shortcut to success,” he said. Motivated by the success of his friends and teammates, Schnieders continuously strives to push himself, aiming to reach—and maybe even surpass—their level of achievement.
“Grant has always been a tremendous asset to our team,” said Reagan Head Coach Paul Miller. “He’s consistently eager to learn new techniques to elevate his skills and become an elite wrestler. Since his freshman year, he’s looked to more experienced wrestlers for guidance, always striving to improve. His toughness and preparation give him the confidence to approach every match with determination.”
As he reflects on his growth within the Reagan wrestling program, Schnieders expresses gratitude for both the lessons he’s learned and the friendships he’s made. Looking ahead to his future, he plans to pursue a degree in finance at either Texas Tech University or the University of Oklahoma after graduation.
However, first Schnieders still has several more victories to add to his record. Currently, he stands at 106 Varsity wins, with key competitions ahead, including his Senior Night Tri-Dual against Steele and Clemens (January 23), the UIL 15-6A District Tournament (January 29-30), the UIL 4-6A Regional Tournament (February 7-8), and, of course, the UIL Texas State Tournament (February 14-15).
We look forward to watching Schnieders finish his high school career on a high note!
