August 17, 2018 – Reagan tennis won the tightest match they’ve had in 4 years 10-9 over Abilene High School. The match started with singles play instead of doubles after losing the coin flip. Boys singles won 5 out of 6 matches while the girls won 2 out of 6. All 6 girls lost the first set but Kyndall Quiroz and Bailey Godwin made huge comebacks that would later prove to be difference makers. Kyndall won 3-6, 6-2, 10-6 while Bailey won 3-6, 6-2, 10-2. Reagan led 7-5 after singles heading into doubles. In doubles play Kyle Totorica and Fernando Andrade won quickly 6-3, 6-0 to give Reagan an 8-5 lead. After losing mixed doubles and #3 girls doubles, Bailey and Kyndall won at #1 girls doubles 6-1, 6-2 to give Reagan a 9-7 lead. Isabela Ortega and Ruchi Seghal lost a tough match at #2 girls doubles 6-3, 6-3 putting the overall score at 9-8. Freshmen Joseph Snyman and Matthew Kim cameback from down 3-5 to finishing 7-5, 6-2 to give Reagan the win. Moments later Matthew Fein and Shaan Desai lost a tight match 7-6, 4-6, 10-6 to put the overall score 10-9 with Reagan squeaking by to advance to the semi-finals against the winner of Harlingen South and Midway High School.
Reagan will play at Northside Tennis Center in Helotes at 8am Saturday in the semi-finals.
