April 19, 2017 – Reagan High School had 4 teams that qualified for Regionals. In boys singles, #4 seed, Luke Godwin won his 1st round match against Palm View H.S. 6-1, 6-2 but lost in the quarter-finals to end his high school career 7-5, 6-1. In mixed doubles, #4 seed Jon Ayers and Grace Landwehr won 2 rounds against Brennan H.S. 6-2, 6-2 and Harlingen H.S. 6-3, 6-1 before losing to the eventual Regional Champions Marcus Sweeney/Loli Perim from Westlake H.S. 6-4, 6-1. Jon and Grace finished in 4th place at Regionals and were also seniors playing in their last match for Reagan. In girls singles, Bailey Godwin lost to the #4 seed 1st round but proved that she will be a contender for a Regional title in the future. In girls doubles, Natalie Gonzalez and Kyndall Quiroz got a little revenge in a rematch against NEISD district champions Love/Quetzeri from Johnson H.S. winning 6-2, 6-2. Natalie and Kyndall finished 3rd place at Regionals. Luke Godwin, Natalie Gonzalez, Jon Ayers and Grace Landwehr were all a part of a senior class that won the NEISD district title 4 years in a row for the 1st time in school history. Their leadership will be missed but with freshman players like Bailey Godwin and Kyndall Quiroz, Reagan high school tennis will be in good hands.
