August 18, 2018 – Reagan tennis lost a 10-9 battle to Harlingen South in the semi-finals of the NISD Invitational. Just one day after having their first 10-9 decision in 4 years they had another match come down to the wire just one match later. In doubles play, Reagan lost all 3 boys doubles positions, mixed doubles and #2 girls doubles to go down 2-5 heading into singles. Knowing they had to pull out a miracle and win 8 out of 12 singles matches to get the victory the Reagan Rattlers got to work and took a 9-8 lead before losing the final 2 matches. The 2 matches that provided the most excitement were #1 boys and girls singles where Kyle Totorica played a powerful player and made highlight after highlight shots to win 6-1, 6-3. Girls #1 Kyndall Quiroz made a great comeback after losing the first set 4-6 to winning the 2nd set 6-0 and from 2-6 down in the tiebreaker to winning 11-9 to make the overall score 8-8 and give Reagan a chance. Fernanda Fajardo at #6 gave Reagan the 9-8 lead before the team lost 10-9. Harlingen South went on to win the tournament.
In the playoff for 3rd place Reagan had to play Clark High School who lost to San Angelo. Reagan dominated the match 10-0. Special recognition to Kyle Totorica who won 6 out of 7 matches at boys #1 singles and doubles and to girls Kyndall Quiroz and Bailey Godwin for winning all 7 of their matches. Kyndall had to win 3 matches in the 3rd set and Bailey won 2 in the decisive set.

Reagan will take on Madison High School on August 30th at 4:30pm at Blossom Tennis Center for their first district match-up.
