Reagan Takes the Fight to Austin

August 18, 2025

What an incredible team effort!

On Friday, August 15th, the Reagan varsity tennis team traveled to Austin to face two powerhouse programs: Westlake High School and defending state champions Westwood High School.

Coming off a tough loss to Westlake last year, Reagan arrived fully prepared to fight. For five straight hours, both teams battled point for point. In the end, Reagan pulled off a thrilling 10–8 victory. It came down to singles matches by Pablo Alvarez and Estefania Scanlon—both holding strong leads. The deciding point was sealed by a clutch boys’ singles win from Pablo. The energy was electric as teammates rallied behind him, their cheers fueling the final push to victory.

After only a short break, Reagan returned to the courts to take on reigning state champions Westwood High School. The team showed incredible grit, fighting for every point and pushing themselves to the limit, with  Jairo Kirk, Nathan Washington, Rodrigo Montano, Evan Wang, Pablo Alvarez, and Heidi Wilkinson winning 6 matches, The team fell short to gain a win against Westwood, and the final score was 6-10.

Although the final score didn’t go our way, Reagan left the Westwood courts with heads held high- proud to have defeated Westlake and proud of every player who gave their all and pushed themselves to the max.

Until the next tournament…
