Rattlers spent 2 days battling to take 5th Place out of 35 teams at the Region 4-6A Tournament, scoring 128 Team Points. The top 4 placers in each weight class advance to the State Tournament. “I am so proud of the way our wrestlers handled themselves in this very tough tournament,” Coach Paul Miller said, “they will be ready to go next week at State.”
JUNIOR SAWYER PEEVY (220#) took 2nd place, scoring 24 team points and is heading to the State Tournament. Peevy got to the finals winning by 2 pins and a DQ (just so you know he would have won the match anyway as he was up 5-0 in the 3rd period, but his opponent was disqualified for pulling 3 illegal cross-faces). His finals match came down to the last 16 seconds; Peevy came up just short losing by 7-8 Decision.
JUNIOR CAPTAIN JIMMY BENNE (138#) took 2nd place, scoring 23.5 team points, earning his way to State. Benne won by 2 Pins and 1 Tech Fall to find himself in the finals, and unfortunately dropped that match by 1-5 Decision.
SENIOR MAVERICK WHITETHORN (145#) took 2nd place, scoring 22 team points and is on his way to State. Whitethorn got to the finals match with 2 Pins and an exciting 4-2 Decision Quarterfinal victory, but lost the finals match 4-12 Major Decision.
SOPHOMORE BRYCE WHITETHORN (120#) took 4th place, scoring 18 team points and punching his ticket to State. Whitethorn went 2-1 on Day 1 with 2 Pins. Day 2 he opened up with a Pin, then won the Consolation Semi’s by 8-2 Decision. He fought hard but lost the third place match 0-2.
SOPHOMORE CONNOR O’BRIEN (113#) took 4th place, scoring 15.5 team points and earning a ticket to State. O’Brien went 2-0 day 1 but dropped the Semifinal match on day 2. He pinned his opponent in the Consolation Semifinals, but lost a nailbiter in the 3rd place match, fighting hard into double overtime.
JUNIOR NATHAN CRAWFORD (195#) took 6th place, scoring 12 team points. Crawford losts his first match by a close 3-7 Decision and showed enormous grit battling up the backside of the bracket winning his next 3 matches, 2 by Pin. He lost the Consolation Semifinal by a close 0-2 Decision, and dropped the 5th place match.
The Reagan Girls ended up 21st place, scoring 29 Team Points and advancing one to the State Tournament.
JUNIOR CAPTAIN PARIS GONZALEZ (165#) took 4th place and earned herself a spot at the State Tournament. Gonzalez got a Pin to get to the Semifinals but dropped that match. She then got a first period Pin in the Consolation Semifinal, and fought hard but lost the 3rd place match by a close 2-7 Decision.
JUNIOR ELLA GRANSBERY took 6th place and scored 11 team points. Gransbery went 2-1 on day 1, winning by 8-4 Decision and Pin. Moving on to Day 2 she won her first match by Pin, but dropped her next one. In the 5th place match she was making a comeback with 30 seconds left, but lost by a narrow 5-7 Decision.
