While most of their friends were enjoying Spring Break at the Coast this past week, the Reagan Softball girls were busy playing in a different type of sand over at the Northeast Softball Complex. The team had a good week with wins over Madison and LEE, but fell to Johnson.
The Spring Break week started with an exciting extra inning win against Madison. The Rattlers won 4-3 in nine innings with a walk-off single by Senior Macie Thiel in the bottom of the ninth inning, scoring her fellow Senior starter Avery Allen from second base. Thiel and Allen led the Rattler offense with three hits a piece. Sophomore hurler Ally Reyes struck out 12 Madison batters on the day, giving up seven hits and three runs over the nine innings.
Unfortunately, the Rattlers were unable to recover from the excitement of the Madison win and came out a little flat in the second game of the week against District leader Johnson, losing 6-1. The Jaguars jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning and never looked back. With the exception of Junior Sadie Eckles, the Rattlers struggled to get their bats going, putting up only five hits for the game. Eckles mustered three of those hits, going 3-4 on the day. Senior Leila Reyes batted in the lone run. Defensively, Ally Reyes took the loss for Reagan, going the full seven innings, surrendering six runs (two earned) on six hits, striking out seven and walking three.
The team ended the week with a 12-0 romping of LEE. Ally Reyes was dominant in the circle, ringing up 16 strikeouts and giving up only one hit in six innings of work. Offensively, Allen and Thiel once again led the Rattlers with three hits each. Eckles, Mina Galvan (S0.), and Leila Reyes added two hits each. Thiel, Eckles, and Galvan drove in two runs a piece.
Looking ahead to this week, the Rattlers will meet up with Churchill on Tuesday at 4:30, followed by Clark on Friday at 5:00.
