Reagan Rattlers Varsity Baseball Gets The Win 2-1 In Tight Game Against Episcopal Knights

March 9, 2024

Darden “Big D” Wetherell was a beast on the bump for Reagan. The righty faced 29 batters in 7 innings, allowing 7 hits and mowing down the Knights with 7 strikeouts and only walking 1.  He gave up 1 run in the 1st inning, holding the Knights scoreless for the rest of the game. Wetherell struck out 2 batters in both the 1st and the 4th innings.  He also had a pickoff at first base in the 3rd inning.

The pitching was strong for the Knights as well.  The Rattlers were held to 3 hits and 1 RBI.  The Rattlers scored their first run in the bottom of the 1st. Jeter Battles led off with a triple to right field then Caden Crofts knocked him in with a fielder’s choice to shortstop.  After Isaiah Robledo and Caden Roy were both hit by pitches in the bottom of the 6th, Matthew Butler got on with an error by the Knights’ second baseman, and Robledo scored.

With the Knights’ winning runners on base and 2 outs in the top of the 7th, Isaiah Robledo made a major league ESPN sliding catch on the run for the game-winning, bench-clearing final out.
