Reagan Rattlers Tennis Closes Regionals with 3 State Qualifiers!

May 10, 2025

STATE BOUND!!! The Reagan Rattlers made an unforgettable statement at Regionals, showing up with heart, hustle, and unmatched determination. Not one, not two, but three of our very own athletes have punched their ticket to STATE! A huge congratulations to Pablo Alvarez (Sophomore), Jairo Kirk (Junior), and Nate Washington (Sophomore) for all securing third place at Regionals, earning their well-deserved spot at State. These young men went out there, gave it everything they had, and showed exactly what it means to wear the Reagan colors with pride… LET’S GOOO.

As we gear up to cheer them on at State, we can’t forget the incredible matches that took place during Regionals. One of the most inspiring moments came from our singles freshman phenom Iris Wang, who made her Regionals debut this season. Though she didn’t come out with the win, she played her heart out and left everything on the court. Making it to Regionals as a freshman is an incredible achievement. Alongside her, Ryan Totorica (Sophomore) and Evan Wang (Junior) also delivered standout performances, securing fourth place and just barely missing the cut for State. Their tenacity, growth, and undeniable talent are paving the way for an exciting season ahead. These athletes have shown that Reagan’s next generation is ready to rise, a clear sign that the future of Reagan Tennis is brighter than ever.

Last but most certainly not least, we want to honor our two incredible four-year lettermen seniors, Diego Alvarez and Italia Valencia, who competed in mixed doubles. From the moment we watched them pick up their first tennis racket, to seeing them walk off the court after their final high school match, it’s been nothing short of an emotional journey. They played their first match with grit and heart, and while the second didn’t go their way, they left it all out on the court – just like they always have. Watching them take their final swing as Reagan Rattlers was a moment filled with pride, love, and gratitude.

Italia and Diego have represented Reagan with unmatched spirit, commitment, and excellence. They’ve grown into not only top-line athletes but remarkable young leaders. And just as they wore the Reagan tennis colors loud and proud, we wore our title as Reagan parents just as proudly — cheering them and all the players through every win, loss, and lesson. Thank you, Diego and Italia, for four unforgettable years. You’ve left your mark on this program and in our hearts.

While we’re saying goodbye to a truly special group of seniors, the legacy they leave behind is in the strongest of hands. With the talent, heart, and determination of our returning players and the high standard set by those before them – there’s no doubt that the future of Reagan Tennis is bright, with many more victories to come. The torch is being passed on to a promising new generation, and from what we’ve seen at Regionals, they’re ready to rise to the challenge. The Reagan Rattlers are on the move, and the momentum is real.

A thank you to our coaches: This season (not over yet!) was nothing short of extraordinary—and at the center of it all was the incredible leadership of Coach Canales in his first year as Head Coach. From the very beginning, you brought fresh energy, a winning mindset, and a renewed sense of unity and purpose to the team. Your vision and dedication helped lead the Rattlers through regionals – an accomplishment that speaks volumes about your ability to inspire and uplift those around you. With Coach Garner by your side and the unwavering support of the entire Reagan Tennis community/parents, this truly feels like just the beginning. We’re confident that under your continued leadership, more district, regional, and state championships are not only possible–they’re inevitable. The future is bright, and we can’t wait to see where you’ll take this team next…in the meantime, let’s take STATE!!!

We’re proudly standing behind Pablo, Jairo, and Nate as they head to State, cheering you on every step of the way.

Let’s show Texas what Reagan is made of, and let’s bring those medals home!
