After struggling on Thursday with a 3-3 tie against McNeil Mavericks and an 8-7 loss against Round Rock Westwood Warriors, Rattlers Varsity Baseball brought their A game on Friday and Saturday, winning 4 exhilarating games. The Rattlers’ offense was fired up, with 43 hits and 21 RBIs. At the top of the pack were Isaiah Robledo with 6 hits, including 2 doubles and 4 RBIs and Karsten Holman with 6 hits and 2 RBIs. Elias Leon also contributed with 5 hits, including a double and a triple, and 1 RBI.
Reagan pitchers worked hard to keep their opponents at bay. Some pitching highlights of the tournament included Kyle Hoggatt going 7 innings, walking 0 and striking out 6 in the 1-0 win over Vista Ridge Rangers and Darden Wetherell getting the 6-3 win over Round Rock Dragons with 4 strike outs and 1 walk in the 30 batters that he faced in 7 innings pitched. Caleb Crider struck out 4 and walked 3 in his 5 innings pitched against McNeil and Kaleb Rogers struck out 7 and walked 3 in his 5 innings pitched against Westwood.
The Rattlers pulled out 2 nail-biting wins on Saturday. Down 5-4 against Cedar Ridge Raiders, Javi Cuevas had the walk-off single that scored 2 runs for the bench-clearing win. Starter, Zach Hopkins, went until the top of the 6th on the mound, striking out 6 and walking 2. Reliever, Nolan Hussey, came away with the win, striking out 1, walking 0, and allowing 0 hits. Luke “Big Country” Davis came in for relief against the Stony Point Tigers and struck out 1 and walked 0 in his 3 innings pitched. “Big Mike” Michael Yzaguirre broke up the 5-5 tie in the top of the 7th with a single, scoring 1 run, and Caden Roy followed with a single that increased the lead to 7-5. Closer, Cuevas, earned the win, entering the game at pitcher in the bottom of the 6th. He pitched his heart out in the bottom of the 7th, holding the Tigers to one run, striking out 2, and walking 1.
Caden Roy was phenomenal at catcher over the 3-day tournament, throwing out 3 McNeil Mavericks and 2 Stoney Point Tigers from behind the plate. Roy also had 4 hits and 2 RBIs.
