Friday at Madison High School Reagan JV Wrestling brought home first place at the 15-6A District Meet for the FIFTH YEAR IN A ROW! The Rattlers racked up 199 team points, a whopping 69 points more than second place Clemens. “I am so proud of our JV,” Coach Paul Miller said. “I believe that any foundation for success on Varsity starts with a successful JV.” He continued, “The fact that we have won five JV District Tournaments in a row is a testament to the hard our athletes put in and how competitive our program has become. Today’s work equals tomorrow’s success.”
JUNIOR NOAH HYSLOP (165#) took FIRST PLACE, scoring 24 team points. Hyslop easily pinned his way to the finals match. Going into the third period Hyslop was up 4-2 but gave up an early reversal to tie it up 4-4. Forty seconds later Hyslop got his own reversal and held on to win by an exciting 6-4 decision.
SOPHOMORE JULIAN TORRES (120#) took FIRST PLACE, scoring 22 team points. Torres won the quarters with a 8-2 decision, then a first period pin in the Semi’s. In the finals Torres went up 2-0 in the first with an early takedown. He went up 4-0 in the second with an escape and penalty point, then his opponent earned a 2 point reversal. Torres held on through the third to win the finals match with a close 4-2 decision.
FRESHMAN ETHAN HAMLIN (175#) took FIRST PLACE, scoring 20 team points. Hamlin won the quarters and semis each by 7-4 decisions. For the finals Hamlin was scoreless in the first period, and early in the second he gave up a 2 point reversal to come back and earn 3 nearfall points. Going into the third period up 3-2, Hamlin secured his 6-2 victory earning a penalty point and a 2 point take down.
JUNIOR ADAM AGUIRRE (132#) took SECOND PLACE, scoring 20 team points. Aguirre pinned his way to the finals match, but came up just short dropping it by a 2-7 decision.
FRESHMAN CAEDMON GARCIA (285#) took SECOND PLACE, scoring 20 team points. Garcia pinned his way to the finals where he dropped the match by a nail biting 1-3 decision.
JUNIOR AIDEN MENDEZ (150#) took SECOND PLACE, scoring 18 team points. Mendez won his first match with a first period pin, and his second with a 4-0 decision. He dropped the finals by a tight 2-4 decision.
FRESHMAN GEORGE BROWN (106#) took SECOND PLACE, scoring 16 team points. Brown beat his first two opponents each with a 9-5 decision, but came up short in the finals.
FRESHMAN SEBASTIAN RANGEL (190#) took SECOND PLACE, scoring 16 team points. Rangel won his semifinal match with a 6-2 decision, but dropped the hard fought final.
FRESHMAN TRIPP DAVENPORT (215#) took SECOND PLACE, scoring 16 team points. Davenport won his first two matches by 8-1 and 4-2 decisions, but dropped the hard fought final.
JUNIOR KAISER JABBOUR (157#) took THIRD PLACE, scoring 8 team points. Jabbour dropped his first match, but fought back to win his next two by 3-2 and 6-4 decisions respectively.
SOPHOMORE LUKE HALL (144#) took FOURTH PLACE, scoring 11 team points. Hall won his first match 5-0 decision, then dropped the Semifinal match. He pinned his opponent in the consolation semifinal, but dropped the Consi-final in a hard fought sudden victory 4-6 decision.
SOPHOMORE DREYSEN MAJUTA (113#) took FOURTH PLACE, scoring 4 team points.
