SAN ANTONIO — The first update of standings for the University Interscholastic League’s (UIL) 2015 Lone Star Cup competition was released Dec. 1, qualifying three San Antonio high schools as candidates for the award, which includes a $1,000 scholarship.

Johnson, Reagan and Alamo Heights are listed as part of the UIL’s Top Ten schools in the running for the cup in their respective conferences.

According to UILTexas.org, the Lone Star Cup is a “prestigious award that recognizes outstanding high schools based on their overall team achievement in a variety of sanctioned academic, athletic and music competitions.”

Since its establishment in 1910 by the University of Texas at Austin, the league has grown to be one of the largest organizations of its kind – honoring the best athletic and academic programs in Texas.

The first of six updates includes team performance in marching band, team tennis, cross country and volleyball. The next update, which will include football, is Jan. 9. All standings will become final on July 1, 2015.
