Reagan Girls Doubles Team Advances to State

April 20, 2018

April 19, 2018 – The Reagan girls doubles team of Bailey Godwin and Kyndall Quiroz advanced to State after taking out #1 seed Anuska Dania and Megha Dania of Lake Travis high school 6-4, 6-2 in the semi-finals.  It was a two and a half hour battle that had both teams going back and forth in the 1st set.  At 1-1 in the 2nd set, the combination of Kyndall’s ground strokes and Bailey’s volleys proved to be too much as they won 5 out of the last 6 games to close out the match.  Even when down 2-5, the Dania’s kept fighting and had break points before the Rattler duo struck them down for good.  The level of play was extremely high as rallies were consistently 15 to 20 shots per point.  Bailey and Kyndall who are both sophomores and were the #3 seed said it took patience and waiting for right time to attack to beat the twin sisters who earlier this year won a national event in Georgia.  On match point when the Rattler team forced the Dania’s to make an error, Kyndall and Bailey gave each other a giant hug knowing they just earned themselves their first high school State Tournament appearance.  In the finals, the Rattler pair had another two and a half hour duel against the #2 seeds from Vandergrift high school losing this battle 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.  Coach David Daniel had the pair make great adjustments to take the 2nd set and take a lead in the 3rd set.  Bailey and Kyndall had game point in the first 5 games of the 3rd set but Vandergrift came up with great shots when down in those games.  The top 2 teams from Regionals now advance to the final 8 spots in the State Tournament on May 17-18 and are scheduled to play at 11:30am at Texas A&M.  Tickets can be purchased for this event at the Texas A&M tennis courts.
