Nejle Huaracha and Alyx Henderson are joining the girls basketball program as assistant coaches. Coach Huaracha will also be an assistant for the volleyball program.
Huaracha will be joining Reagan as an assistant for both the girls basketball program and volleyball program. She will also be teaching PE. She comes to Reagan from Cole High School where she spent the last 5 years as the assistant girls basketball coach and head track coach. She has a proven track record of developing student athletes, helping guide Cole to multiple district championships and a regional tournament appearance during her time there.
Coach Huaracha comes from a military family, she was born in Frankfurt, Germany and has lived all over the United States. She attended Cole High School on Fort Sam Houston and has called San Antonio her home ever since. She attended UTSA and studied kinesiology. Her career began with two years teaching and coaching at John F Kennedy High School in San Antonio, before returning to her Alma Mater, Robert G. Cole High School, in 2018, where she’s spent the last 5 years coaching Girls’ Basketball and Track & Field. In 2022 she graduated with her Masters Degree in Teacher Leadership Administration at Lamar University.
“I am fueled by my passion for helping student-athletes grow in school, sports, and life. I am excited to be a member of the Reagan Rattler team and look forward to parlaying my passion, knowledge, and valuable experience to serve the community in the classroom and on the court.” said Huaracha.
“Coach Huaracha is an excellent hire for our staff. Her knowledge of the game and great energy are going to help our program continue to grow,” said Tabor. “She is truly committed to building student athletes that will be successful on and off the court.”
Coach Henderson joins Reagan HS in 2023 as an Assistant Girls’ Basketball Coach. She will be co-teaching mathematics in addition to her coaching position.
Prior to Reagan, Henderson coached at Lubbock-Cooper ISD for four years as Assistant Girls’ Basketball and Freshman GB Coach. During her time as a coach, LCP Girls’ Basketball made two state appearances; State Finals in 2023 and State Semi-finals in 2021. LCISD Girls’ Basketball also attended the Nike National Invitational in Phoenix, Arizona in 2022. Henderson also coached volleyball, basketball, and track at the middle school level earning multiple district championships while at LCISD.
Coach Henderson graduated from the great University of Texas A&M in May 2019 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sport Management & a minor in Communications with a focus in International and Cultural Management. While there, she was a co-founder of the Women’s Club Basketball program on campus and an active member of the Sport Management society.
Prior to TAMU, Henderson graduated top ten percent of her class from Plains HS in 2015 where she participated in UIL Academics, Athletics, & OAP. She lettered and started all four years of high school in basketball, baseball, and cross country. The girls’ basketball program made three regional tournament appearances and won a state championship in 2014, where Henderson was named All-Tournament Team. She earned various district and regional honors including Two-Time District Defensive MVP, All Region Team, and Four-Time Academic All-District.
“Coach Henderson is a great young coach who brings experience from one of the top programs in the state,” said Tabor. “We are excited about the impact she can have on our program in a multitude of ways.”
