Reagan H.S. varsity diver Andie L. Torres commits to continue her academic and diving career at Trinity University, an NCAA Division III university located right here in San Antonio, Texas. Alongside her father Tomás, her mother Heidi, her brother Erik—who is a junior on varsity swim—and RRHS head coach Michael Rourke (not pictured), Torres signed a national letter of intent to dive at Trinity during a signing day ceremony Feb. 5 at Reagan High School.
Torres was recruited to dive for Trinity under coach Tommy Law, where she plans to study pre-medical sciences. Law said, “Andie, I can’t wait for you to join our team!”
A four-year varsity letterman, Torres advanced to District and Region her first year out as a freshman. That was just the beginning of her many accomplishments throughout her high school years. At the Texas All Star Dive Meet with the San Antonio Divers, Torres scored first in the 1-meter and first in the 3-meter springboard dive category her junior and senior years.
Her academic accomplishments are just as impressive. Torres currently holds a 3.9 GPA despite a rigorous schedule that included eight AP classes. She also devoted her free time to many extracurricular activities, including all-region choir, playing three characters in the Reagan H.S. musical Beauty & the Beast, being a member of the National Honor Society, and devoting many other hours to community service throughout the San Antonio community.
Rourke said, “Andie has been such a great part of our thriving girls diving team for 4 years. It has been amazing watching her grow and continue to excel both on the board and in the classroom.”
Torres, who excited for her future, said she was very humbled to be honored during the signing ceremony by her coach, family, teammates and friends, “I can’t wait to start my next chapter with my new dive family and move into the Trinity dorms.”
