REAGAN BOYS TAKE 4TH, GIRLS 7TH AT ROUGH RIDER CLASSIC

December 8, 2024

Yesterday your Rattler wrestlers headed to Roosevelt to compete in the Rough Rider Classic. The Boys’ team took 4th place of 28 teams with 142 points, just 6 points shy of 3rd. The Girls ended 7th place of 27 teams with 66 points.

SENIOR CAPTAIN MAX PECHMAN (113#) won 1st place scoring 21.5 team points. Pechman won his first match easily with a 15-0 tech fall and won the semifinal match with a 3rd period pin. In the first period of the finals Pechman scored an early 3-point takedown, but gave up a 1-point escape. His opponent narrowed the lead to 3-2 in the 2nd period with another escape. With the position choice in the 3rd period, Pechman chose bottom and earned an escape and quick takedown to solidify his 1st place medal by a 7-3 decision.
JUNIOR CAEDMON GARCIA (285#) took 3rd place scoring 20 team points, starting his day with 2 pins. He lost the quarterfinals with a 0-1 decision (his first loss of the season), only to show amazing resilience and pin his way to the 3rd place medal.
SENIOR CAPTAIN GRANT SCHNIEDERS (150#) took 3rd place scoring 19 team points. His day started with a first period pin followed by a 17-1 tech fall victory. He narrowly dropped the quarterfinals, but won his next two with a 22-6 tech fall and a pin to earn the bronze.

On the girls side, JUNIOR CAPTAIN SHOBHANA SPIELMANN (114#) won the tournament scoring 28 team points. She did so with ease – all 4 victories came from first period pins, 3 of which were under a minute!

The season grind is just getting started – this week JV will compete at Johnson’s Russ Pederson tournament on Thursday December 12 starting at 4:15pm. With the UIL rule of maximum 6 matches a day, Varsity’s Russ Pederson competition has grown to a two day tournament that will start at 9:00am both Friday and Saturday, December 13-14. Pray for your Reagan wrestlers as with a 2-day tournament they will need to make weight both days!
