Seven Varsity Tennis Players make it through to Regionals 2022
The Reagan Rattles Varsity Tennis Players competed in the District matches last week at Blossom Tennis Center, in a tough and grueling 2 day competition. 7 players emerged from the playoffs to go through to the next round of tennis matches at the Regional Tournament slated for April 12th 2022 at McFarlin Tennis Center.
Before we dispense to the results, we first have to say goodbye to several seniors that unfortunately spells the final round of tennis matches for them as a Reagan Rattler. It would be remiss for us to give them all an honorable mention for competing hard and dedicating a large portion of their high school careers and energy to the Rattlers tennis program.
Senior Girls:
Kara Greenlee (4-year letterman)
Kara joined the team as a Freshman and played all 4 years on the Varsity team. She performed in all disciplines and found her niche as a formidable doubles player in the girls doubles pairings. She paired up with her close friend Alissa Ortiz and together they were a force to be reckoned with. Do not be fooled by the quiet and calm exterior as Kara proved to be resilient and a strong competitor throughout her years on the team. She played a key part in all 4 years district champs, leading up to the record 9th District title for Reagan Varsity Tennis. She narrowly missed out on moving forward to the regional competition in the 2022 individual season, but her strong team spirit and great friendship will be long remembered. Good luck Kara on the next adventure.
Alissa Ortiz (3-year letterman)
Alissa made a massive impact when she joined the varsity team in her sophomore year. She represented for 3 years, played singles, doubles and the occasional mixed doubles too. She proved to be a valued asset to the team and racked up many great wins in both the team and individual seasons. She possessed some powerful weapons in her forehand and backhand groundstrokes, and often used them to great effect. Sadly, her and her doubles partner, Kara Greenlee, narrowly missed out and making it through to regionals. Your commitment, effort and determination on and off the court will be missed and we wish you all the best for your future adventures ahead.
Darshini Mahesh (2-year letterman)
Darshini paired with senior Mathew Kim in the mixed doubles over the last year, and they both ratcheted several strong wins in this role for the team District champs in 2021 and also narrowly lost in the mixed doubles playoff to go through to regionals. We applaud Darshinis commitment to the team and her fun smile and deadly forehand will be missed. Good luck for your future adventures.
Carys Owen (2-year letterman)
Carys played her first year on the team as a Junior but decided she would be better suited for a different role on the team and got drafted in her final year as the team manager. She relished the role of taking scores, ensuring players were on the proper courts and always being a staunch cheerleader for the team. A big thank you goes to Carys for her role and effervescent personality that helped propel the team to all its successes. Good luck too on your next adventure.
Senior Boys:
Matthew Kim (4-year Letterman)
Matthew Kim played all 4 years on the line-up in some shape or form. He began in doubles with Joseph Snyman and made a huge impact in his first match with that epic win over Clark high school 4 years ago! During his years he specialized in doubles in both the boys and mixed doubles. Without a doubt he has the meanest slice serve known to man, but it is his character on and off the court that made him special. He will be sadly missed and we all wish him well on his future adventures, wherever they lead him.
Jackson Flummer (1-year Letterman)
Jackson Flummer made his way through the ranks form JV and earned a well deserved spot on the Varsity team in his final year. He simply flourished and grew from strength to strength as the year progressed. He managed to sneak in a few critical wins in doubles and the occasional singles matches. All in he was a team player and his infectious humor and unbridled enthusiasm for the game will be forever remembered by the team. Good Luck Jackson in your next adventure and Giggem Aggies!!
Coral Hatipkarasulu (1-year Letterman)
Coral Hatipkarasulu joined the varsity team in his senior year. He proved to be the ultimate utility back and performed in singles, boys doubles, assistant team manager as well as the “official” team photographer. Coral simply helped wherever he was needed. Whether he was keeping his team mates hydrated during some intense battles with water or Gatorade, or taking his amazing photos, he tackled everything with such a high degree of enthusiasm. He too will be remembered for the best cheering voice on the team and often would lead the charge giving encouragement when it was needed the most. Good luck Coral and continue being awesome.
Hunter Alexander (1-year Letterman)
Hunter Alexander also joined the team in his senior year. Hunter was also instrumental in pushing the scales in some tight matches. He played singles, doubles and even a match or two of mixed doubles. He had the ability to rise to the occasion when needed and his determination and dogged focus got him through some tough matches. He is for sure the cheekiest of the bunch and his shenanigans always brought everyone down to earth to remind them to enjoy themselves. Good luck Hunter in your next adventure and all the best.
