Rattlers Qualify Three for State Tournament!

February 11, 2025

With the Road to State winding down, three Reagan athletes placed in the top 4 at last weekend’s Region 4-6A meet and have punched their tickets to the State Tournament this Friday and Saturday, February 14-15, at the Berry Center in Cypress.

SENIOR CAPTAIN GRANT SCHNIEDERS (144#) dominated his way to the finals, earning two pins and a impressive 17-2 tech fall. Despite being down 1-12 heading into the final period of the championship match, Schnieders showed grit and resilience by scoring 8 points, but ultimately ran out of time earning second-place and a spot at the State Tournament.

JUNIOR CAPTAIN SHOBHANA SPIELMANN (114#) powered through her first three matches with pins, the third of which marked her 100th career pin—an amazing milestone not seen by many! She fought hard in the finals match, narrowly losing by a 0-6 decision, taking second place and securing her spot in Cypress.

JUNIOR CAPTAIN MEKYELA GARCIA (152#) dominated her first two opponents with pins, but dropped the semifinals match. After a loss in the first consolation match, Garcia bounced back to win her next two matches by major decision and decision, earning fourth-place and a trip to the State Tournament.

Although they did not place in the top four, SOPHOMORE MIGUEL GUTIERREZ (150#), and SENIOR BRYSON BJORKMAN (175#) and JUNIOR SEBASTIAN RANGEL (190#) fought hard over the 2 days and placed 6th in the Region.
