The Reagan Rattlers began their second playoff series vs. Round Rock on Thursday evening at Concordia University, falling to the Dragons 8-7 in eleven innings.
Reagan got out to a one run lead in the top of the first inning that lasted until the 5th inning when they tacked on one more to lead 2-0. However, in the bottom half of the 5th inning Round Rock scored 6 runs to take a 6-2 lead.
In the top of the 6th inning after a sacrifice fly by Andrew Ermis, Brennan Greer launched a three-run homer over the left field fence to tie the game at 6-6. The teams went another 4 innings and in the top of the 11th Andrew Ermis hit a single to right field scoring Caleb Cappuccio to take a 7-6 lead. After the Rattlers secured the first out in the bottom of the 11th, four straight walks allowed the Dragons to tie the game at 7-7 and then they produced a fielder’s choice to score the winning run.
At the plate the Rattlers were led by Brennan Greer who went 2 for 5 (1 homer, 1 double, 1 run and 4 RBI); Andrew Ermis who went 2 for 5 (2 singles, 0 runs and 2 RBI) and Ashton Beaird who also went 2 for 5 (1 single, 1 double, 1 run, 1 walk, 1 stolen base and 1 RBI). Jeter Battles and Caleb Cappuccio also had a hit on the night each producing a single.
Ryland Rangel started the game on the mound for the Rattlers and threw 4 innings, allowing 5 hits, 5 runs, 5 earned, 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. Relievers on the night consisted of Kyle Hoggatt who threw one inning, allowing 2 hits, 1 run and 1 earned; Cody Pictrowski who threw five innings allowing 4 hits, 1 run, 1 earned, 2 walks and 6 strikeouts and Jackson Crider who threw.01 innings, allowing 1 run, 1 earned and 3 walks.
