RATTLER WRESTLERS QUALIFY 16 TO THE REGION MEET

Today Reagan Wrestling showed heart and grit wrapping up 2 days of wrestling at the District Meet, qualifying 16 athletes to continue on the Road to the State journey. The Boys placed 3rd with 173 points, and the Girls placed 6th with 88.5 points. These Rattlers will head to the Delco Activity Center in Austin February 7-8 to compete in the 4-6A Region Tournament.

GOLD MEDALISTS:
JUNIOR CAPTAIN SHOBHANA SPIELMANN (114#) pinned her way to the gold medal earning 26 team points – defeating her first 2 opponents in 22 and 58 seconds respectively, and then pinning her Steele opponent with 28 seconds left in the match.
SENIOR CAPTAIN GRANT SCHNIEDERS (144#) scored 25.5 points to take the top spot. Schnieders made it look easy – winning his first match by tech fall (18-3) and pinning his next 2 opponents in the 2nd period to earn 1st place.
SENIOR CAPTAIN MAX PECHMAN (120#)
scored 21.5 team points and brought home the gold. Winning his first 2 matches by tech fall (18-0) and Decision (13-9), Pechman battled for the top spot, defeating his Judson opponent by a nail biting score of 2-0.

BRONZE MEDALISTS:
JUNIOR HANNAH DUNN (126#) 
scored 19.5 team points to earn 3rd place. After pinning her first opponent, Dunn dropped the next match and then cruised through the next 2 matches with a 17-0 tech fall and first period pin for bronze.
SENIOR CAPTAIN BEN BROWN (126#) scored 18 team points earning him 3rd place. Brown pinned his first opponent in 48 seconds, but dropped his next contest. He fought back and won with a 3rd period pin and took 3rd place with an exciting 8-3 decision.
JUNIOR ETHAN HAMLIN (215#) scored 15.5 team points to place 3rd. Hamlin won his first match easily with a 18-3 tech fall, but dropped the next. He then won his next 2 with a third period pin and an exciting 8-3 decision for 3rd.
JUNIOR SEBASTIAN RANGEL (190#) scored 15 team points for the bronze medal. After dropping his first match, Rangel worked his way up the back side of the bracket earning 3rd place with a 10-7 decision, 2nd period pin and a 10-0 major decision.

FOURTH PLACE MEDALISTS:
JUNIOR CAEDMON GARCIA (285#) scored 18 team points to secure 4th place. Garcia won his first match with a first period pin and narrowly lost the Quarterfinal by 3-4 ultimate tie breaker. He then pinned his way to the Consolation finals.
SENIOR SOFIA MELENDEZ (145#)
scored 13 team points and placed 4th. Melendez won her first match 17-8, then dropped the next. She came back and pinned her next opponent but dropped the 3rd place match.
SOPHOMORE MIGUEL GUTIERREZ (150#) scored 11.5 team points for the 4th place spot. Gutierrez won his first match with a 9-2 decision, but dropped the next one. He won the Consolation Semi-final with a 19-1 tech fall but then dropped the 3rd place match.
SOPHOMORE ZAIDEN HERNANDEZ (106#) scored 11 team points to earn 4th place. Hernandez won his first match by major decision (11-0) but dropped the Semifinal. He won his next match in a close 7-5 decision and lost the 3rd place match.
JUNIOR CAPTAIN MEKYELA GARCIA (152#) scored 11 team points to take the 4th advancing spot. Garcia dropped her first match and won her next contest by medical forfeit. She then lost the Consolation Finals and was able to counter the wrestle-back challenge for 4th place by defeating her Steele opponent with a first period pin.
SENIOR BRYSON BJORKMAN (175#) scored 11 team points to earn 4th. After narrowly winning his first match (4-2 decision), Bjorkman won his next two matches by decision (8-5 and 7-1 respectively), but dropped the 3rd place match. He was able to defeat the wrestle-back challenger with a 3rd period pin to ensure his spot.
JUNIOR ALEXANDER FRANCO (138#) scored 10 team points and placed 4th. Franco dropped his first match then advanced to the Consolation Final with 2 pins and an exciting 4-2 decision.

FIFTH PLACE ALTERNATE:
SOPHOMORE DANIELLA GARCIA (120#) scored 13 team points and took 5th. Garcia lost her first match but showed amazing heart to come back and pin her next 3 opponents, 2 in the first period, to earn 5th place and the alternate spot.
JUNIOR ABDI WIRKUS (165#) scored 11 team points to earn 5th place. Wirkus dropped his first match, but came back to win the next by 17-2 tech fall. He pinned his next opponent but dropped the Consolation final. Wirkus then bounced back and won the 5th place match with a first period pin.
