Playoff Prom-ises…Reagan Rattlers defeat the Brennan Bears to Move to Second Round!

April 28, 2025

Our Reagan Softball team completed the sweep of the Brennan Bears with a 10-9 victory this past Saturday after a 5-1 win on Friday in a best of three series. Fresh off a dramatic “Play-In” victory last Monday verses Brandeis, Reagan squared up for their first playoff round against perennial District 28-6A qualifier, Brennan High School.

Game 1: Star sophomore pitcher Ally Reyes set the defensive tone early in the series to hold a hard-hitting Brennan offense to only three hits and one run while fanning four batters in seven innings, throwing 106 pitches.

The Rattlers got on the board in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back. Super Senior Avery Allen led the team with three hits. Along with an RBI triple by Lelia Reyes (Sr.) and Sadie Eckles (Jr.) double, the Rattlers established a dominance in their first playoff game since 2019.

Game 2: The Reagan Rattlers snatched the lead late in their 10-9 victory over the Brennan Bears on Saturday to clinch their first playoff series victory since 2016.  Reagan was down 9-8 in the top of the sixth inning when Leila Reyes doubled, scoring two runs to put Reagan back up in a full seven-inning game that saw four lead changes.

The Brennan Bears got on the board early, scoring three runs in the first inning on a stingy Rattlers defense, with hopes to force a rubber-match tiebreaking Game 3.  The Reagan offense had other plans, however, to make sure this relentless band of Rattler Sisters would move onto the next round of playoffs while still making their Prom that same night!

Super Seniors Avery Allen, Macie Thiel, and Leila Reyes once again pulled through in clutch moments. Allen and Reyes both drove in three huge RBIs, while Thiel and Allen led the charge with two hits apiece for Reagan.  The Rattler ladies showed a strong eye at the plate, tallying nine walks for the game led by Mila Mancias (Jr.) and Claire Exstrom (So.) each with three free passes.

Stone cold pitching by Ally Reyes earned another win for Reagan. The hurler allowed four hits (eight earned runs) over seven innings, striking out six and throwing 165 pitches to wrap up a solid winning weekend both on the field and off for the Rattler ladies!

Reagan moves on to face a strong Lake Travis team for a single game playoff on Thursday, May 1, 7 PM at New Braunfels High School.  Come out to the ballpark to cheer on your Lady Rattlers!
