The Lady Rattlers sailed into round five of the UIL State championships Friday with a win in the semifinal round against a skilled and well-coached NISD Stevens team 65-52. Reagan started off with an eight-point lead after the first quarter but allowed Stevens to get within five at the half. A sluggish start to the third quarter for for the Rattlers saw Stevens’ first lead of the game but Reagan quickly regrouped behind a 23-point performance from Junior Post Christeen Iwuala and 22 from Sophomore Wing Sammie Wagner.
The starting five plus one (Sophomore Reese Stephens) held down the defensive effort again and pulled the game out of reach, and Wagner and Iwuala had stellar rebounding nights, bringing down 18 and 14 rebounds, respectively. Iwuala also had five blocks and Wagner three assists in the effort, and each grabbed two steals.
Junior Miranda Noack added eight points, Junior Kelsie Hawkins threw in six points, four rebounds, two assists and three steals and Stephens had six points.
