November 30, 2021

The Lady Rattlers continue to improve in tournament play with a 4-1 record and a Gold Bracket Consolation Championship for the Hill Country Classic tournament in Marble Falls over November 18-20th.

The Ladies went 2-0 in pool play to get to the Gold Bracket, beating Leander Glenn (54-42) and The Woodlands (67-34).  In Bracket play, they were outscored by 10 in the first round, losing to Round Rock Cedar Ridge 47-37, pushing them to play for Gold Bracket Consolation.  After beating Mansfield Summit 61-48 and Austin Vandergrift 46-40, The Lady Rattlers took home the Gold Bracket Consolation s well as 5th place in the Gold Championship Bracket. Junior Samantha Wagner was named to the All-Tournament team, averaging 24.8pts/11.8reb/2.6asst/1.8blk/1.6stl for the five game slate.  Senior Kelsie Hawkins also had notable stats, averaging 8.2pts/3.0reb/2.6asst/1.4stl for the tourney.

Over the Thanksgiving break, the Rattlers hosted Austin Westlake in a low-scoring affair that had the ladies struggling to recover from low-percentage shooting for the first half, giving Westlake hope that they could come away with the upset.  The ladies rallied in the second half after some adjustments and pulled out the win 38-35.  Westlake held Wagner to a season-low of 11 points, but Sophomore Joana Lopez came up with 10 points on 4-8 shooting, and Senior Miranda Noack added 7 seven points, three steals and three assists to help seal the victory.

Next up is Schertz Clemens on Tuesday, November 30th at 8:00pm at Clemens.  Clemens beat the Rattlers by 20 in an earlier matchup with Wagner unexpectedly out due to injury.  The ladies are looking forward to avenging that loss and continuing on to some great matchups in the Jack Frost Tournament in Georgetown at the end of the week.

The Lady Rattlers are currently listed at #3 in the Region and #11 in the state according to Texas HS Girls Basketball, behind Austin High and SA Clark.
