Lady Rattlers Finish Bowie Tourney 2-3, Hawkins with Career-High 29 vs Austin Bowie

November 16, 2021

The Lady Rattlers got off to a bit of a shakier start to the tourney season than normal, going 2-3 in the five-game BeYOUtiful Classic Tourney hosted by Austin Bowie High School November 11-13th.

They started strong, taking down Victoria East 66-21.  Junior Samantha Wagner had 26pts/11reb/3 blks and Senior Kelsie Hawkins had 19pts/5stl/4asst.

The second game of the day proved a bit more challenging when taking on a long and aggressive team from Houston Memorial.  Down 14 at the half, Reagan climbed back into it in large part to a 32-point effort from Wagner.  In the end it wasn’t enough and the Ladies lost 45-43.

Friday the 12th brought a 20-point loss to Clemens, Hawkins had a game-high nine points and Junior Ava Schroeder and Freshman Sahara Green both chipped in six.  Wagner did not play in Friday or Saturdays games due to injury.

Hawkins came up HUGE in game four on Friday against host Austin Bowie.  In a back and forth game Hawkins went off for a career-high 29 points on 10-for-21 shooting and 8-for-10 free throws.  She had 6reb/5stl/4asst to round out the game that ended in the Rattlers favor 62-56.  Sophomore Joana Lopez scored 12 on 3-for-6 3-point shooting, and Junior Reese Stephens and Senior Miranda Noack each scored seven in the effort.

Game five against Steele on Saturday morning was a defensive grudge-fest as usual, back and forth the entire game in a low-scoring affair.  Lopez once again found her three-point shot going 2-for-4 and scoring eight.  Schroeder was almost perfect from the floor at 4-for-5 shooting for eight points as well, and both Stephens and Noack added seven.  In the end it wasn’t enough and Steele got the win 42-39.

The Lady Rattlers are back at it with against Steele tonight at Blossom for a 6:30pm game.
