Your Lady Rattlers finished their season earlier than hoped Tuesday with an early round loss to Cibolo Steele 41-40. After finishing district play with a 14-2 record in 2nd place in 28-6A, with their only losses coming to 1st place NISD Clark, the Rattlers had hoped for a playoff run long enough to see their district rivals again.
It was not to be, as Steele employed a rotating face guard, dropping to double and triple coverage on junior Samantha Wagner for the entire game. The ladies fought hard, bringing the score back to even multiple times until the last shot didn’t go in and they lost by one, knocking them out of the playoffs and ending their season.
It was a season of milestones for the Rattlers, as several individual team records were broken by Wagner (Points in a Game – 36, Points in a Season – 808), and senior Kelsie Hawkins (Assists in a Game – 11). Additional team records were broken for Made Three-Point Shots, breaking the old record of 184 with 198, and Charges Taken, with a new mark of 14 from the previous record of 12.
The ladies worked exceptionally well as a team this year, adapting to first-year Coach Zac Tabor’s coaching style and system quickly and efficiently. Seniors Hawkins, Miranda Noack and Katrina Parana will be missed and the Diamondbackers Sports Association wishes them much luck and happiness in their new adventures and thank them for their efforts as members of Reagan Lady Rattler Basketball!
