Lady Rattler Basketball Team Finishes as Area Champions, Drops Regional Quarter Final to Austin Westlake

February 26, 2020

The Lady Rattlers lost to Austin Westlake in the third round of the UIL 6A state playoffs Tuesday at New Braunfels High School 59-45.

Early foul trouble for several starters hampered Reagans’ defensive efforts in the paint from early in the first half.  Westlake took advantage of their ability to move the ball easily, and while the score went back and forth several times and the Rattlers pulled close late, Westlake’s up-tempo style proved too much for the Rattlers to overcome.

S. Wagner led Reagan scoring with 16pts/11reb/2 asst/2blks, and C. Iwuala added 14pts/13reb.  N. Wilson had 11 points and K. Hawkins had four points.

It was the final game for seniors Juliett Martinez, Nadja Wilson, Dailani Barton, Jeweliet Leach, and Cheyenne Ruffin (all pictured).

The Lady Rattlers end the season as Area Champions and Regional Quarter-Finalists, with the best finish since the 2012-2013 season when the Lady Rattlers finished as Regional Champions and 2013-2014 when they claimed the Regional Semifinal title.  The final record for 2019-2020 was 29-8, including a perfect 14-0 record in District 27-6A for the first time in school history.
