Reagan high school’s, Kyle Totorica, played the perfect tournament to win Regionals and advance to the State Championship. Kyle started off hot on Tuesday winning 1st and 2nd round 6-1, 6-0 vs Marco Rodriguez from United and 6-1, 6-2 vs Anmay Devaraj from Lake Travis high school. In the semi-finals, Kyle only needed 40 minutes to beat Aashish Dhanani from Westwood high school 6-0, 6-3 setting up a final against Westwood’s Nicolas Pesoli whom Kyle had lost to twice before. Kyle started the match crushing forehands cross court to open up the court and take the 1st set 6-2. In the 2nd set, Kyle jumped out to a 4-1 lead before Pesoli cut the lead to 4-3. Nicolas started to cramp and took a medical timeout but Kyle came out grinding out long points to finish off the match 6-3 to take the Championship.
Also playing singles at Regionals was Jon Totorica who lost a tough 3 setter to Bernardo Clemente of United 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. In doubles action for Reagan was Joseph Snyman and Deuce Daniel who won 1st round 6-0, 6-0 vs Freddy Arias and Caleb Olen of O’Connor high school. In the 2nd round, Joseph and Deuce lost a hard fought match to Devan Sabapathy and Jette Payne of Westlake high school 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. Devan and Jette barely missed the opportunity to get to state when they lost the playback for 2nd place in 3 sets.
Next up for Reagan is the State Championship on May 20-21. The draws at State will be a final 8 players. The tournament will be held at Northside Tennis Center in Helotes, TX. Please come out and support your Rattler!!!
