Kyle Totorica – Makes State 6A Finals at the UIL State Tennis Tournament

April 26, 2022

LET’S GO!!  Kyle Totorica’s familiar celebration yell sounded strong as he fought his way to a stunning victory in the Semi-Finals against a strong opponent to secure his berth in the UIL State 6A Tennis Tournament.

Kyle won his first round match in the Quarter Finals in a tie breaker. He came back even more dominant in the second set with the end score 7-6(4), 6-0 to defeat Rudolfo Mazzola from Beaumont High School in West Brook. This secured Kyle’s title run into the Semi Finals against Colin Scruggs from Southlake High School in Carroll.

The Semi Finals match did not disappoint as Kyle and Colin battled hard over a tight first set that went all the way to a 7 point tie break. Kyle prevailed to win the tie breaker 7-4 and secured the first set.  In the second set, the 2 players battled for over 2 hours dueling back and forth and trading blows across the net. Set scores remained tight and when Kyle was up 5-4, all he had to do was serve out this final game. Each point was a physical battle of the wills as Kyle and his opponent traded fizzing groundstrokes back and forth for Kyle to eventually needle out an opportunity for a match point. Kyle was prepared and managed to solidly hit a down the line shot to then receive it back to his backhand where he launched a near perfect crosscourt angle shot low hard and with exceptional pace. The shot was so well hit it forced his opponent wide and off balance, scurrying to reach the bullet unleashed from Kyles racquet, to no avail where it hit the net and fell back onto his opponents side.

With a final shout and an ecstatic response from his support, Kyle finished with arms raised and a smile to celebrate. He left the court being supported by loyal friends, family and supporters.

Come on out to the Northside ISD Tennis Center where Kyle will compete in his final high school match and an opportunity to become our UIL 6A State Tennis Champion. Match is at 10:00 AM. Tickets can be purchased through NISD https://nisd.net/athletics/high-school-tickets (UIL hosted events).
