At Reagan’s Signing Day Ceremony, Kate Barrera signed to run Cross Country and Track for Ouachita Baptist University (OBU). OBU is a Division II Program located in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. When asked what running has taught her, Barrera replied, “ Pressure is a privilege. Even though I run as individual event, it is just as much a team sport to get me to the finish line.”
While at Reagan, Kate has numerous awards and accomplishments, including:
- Academic All-District
- Competed in the 800m, 1600m, 400m, and pole vault for Track and Field
- Junior Varsity and Varsity Cross Country teams
- Excellent Leadership in Track Award
- TGCA (Texas Girls Coaches Association) 2022-2023 Cross Country Academic All-State
- National Honor Society member
- Graduating Summa Cum Laude
- Reagan’s Kindness Award
- Reagan PALS program
- Reagan’s Community Key Club
Head Cross Country Coach, Rachel Freeman, commented, “Kate comes to practice every day with a smile, ready to work hard, and push herself to improve. She is a leader on our team and helps encourage and push teammates to be the best they can be. She will be missed. We wish her the best and can’t wait to see all the wonderful accomplishments she will achieve.”
OBU’s Track and Field Coach, Steve Guymon, had this to say, “I believe God has a way of crossing people’s paths for a reason. I am honored that our paths crossed. Kate is going to be a huge impact on our new program in the middle-distance area. We are excited she has chosen Ouachita!”
We wish Kate continued success competing as a Tiger and pursuing her education at Ouachita Baptist University.
