JV Wrestling ends season 2nd place at District Tournament

Reagan JV finished up their season yesterday at home competing in the District Tournament. The Boys’ team took home 2nd place, just 6.5 points shy of 1st place Steele with 146.5 team points. The Girls tied for 3rd with 51 team points.

Boys’ Team Results:
Junior Abdi Wirkus (165#) placed 1st with 2 pins and a 9-0 major decision, earning 23 team points.
Junior Tommy Benne (157#) placed 1st with 2 pins and an 8-5 decision, earning 22 team points.
Junior Tripp Davenport (215#) placed 1st with a 15-0 tech fall, 12-0 major and 7-3 decision, earning 20.5 team points.
Junior Bobby Wheat (175#) placed 1st with a pin and 8-1 and 7-2 decisions, scoring 20 team points.
Sophomore Ryan Perez (113#) placed 2nd, reaching the finals with two 1st period pins, earning 18 team points.
Sophomore Isaiah Whittington (285#) placed 3rd, with a 10-0 major decision, a 2nd period pin and a medical forfeit, scoring 15 team points.
Junior Luis Pimentel (190#) placed 3rd, after a loss he had 2 pins and a 9-1 major decision, earning 14 team points.
Freshman Brooks Davies (120#) placed 3rd, with a 6-4 decision in the consolation finals, scoring 8 team points.

Girls’ Team Results:
Freshman Gabryela Garcia (114#) placed 1st with a 3rd period pin and a 9-6 decision, scoring 14 team points.
Freshman Marissa Ponce (120#) placed 1st with a 3rd period pin and a 5-3 decision, scoring 14 team points.
Freshman Athena Rodriguez (145#) placed 2nd, reaching the finals with a 1st period pin, scoring 10 team points.

The future of Reagan wrestling is bright – next up January 29-30 Varsity Boys and Girls head to the District Tournament, embarking on the long Road to State at Blossom Athletic Center.
