Junior Captain Shobhana Spielmann’s wrestling journey began with inspiration from her younger brother, Lincoln. “I always thought the sport looked cool,” she recalls. It wasn’t until high school, however, that she decided to step onto the mat herself. From the moment she began competing, it was clear that she had a natural talent for the sport, and she quickly started racking up impressive victories.
“My family, coaches, and team all inspire me to continue to work hard and improve,” Shobhana says. “They provide me with endless support, and I am so grateful for that.”
Her wrestling career has been nothing short of extraordinary. She made Varsity as a freshman, and qualified for the UIL State Tournament, finishing 6th. As a sophomore she kept the momentum going and earned 4th place at the State Tournament – a testament to her continuous growth and dedication.
Now, in midway through her junior year, Shobhana has already surpassed 100 Varsity wins last Friday. With a cumulative record of 104-20, she holds the most Varsity wins of any female athlete at Reagan. By the end of this season, she is on track to break the school record for the most Varsity wins in the history of Rattler wrestling, which is currently 128 wins held by Jimmy Benne (class of 2023).
Wrestling Head Coach Paul Miller credits Shobhana’s success to her incredible work ethic. “Shobhana has always been consistent in her efforts…I do not believe I have seen her take a drill off in practice or not go 100%,” he says. “She is quite a special wrestler and young lady.”
As Shobhana looks ahead to the remainder of her high school wrestling career, the future looks incredibly bright. But for now, we take a moment to celebrate this incredible milestone—Congratulations, Shobhana!
