Junior Jimmy Benne Qualifies for 2022 US Marine Corps Nationals in Fargo, ND

May 20, 2022

You have read about the success of the Reagan Wrestling Team during the Folkstyle Season which runs from November through February, culminating at the State Tournament.  Folkstyle is the style of wrestling in which Scholastic and Collegiate athletes in the United States compete.

Greco-Roman and Freestyle are two different styles of wrestling with different rules and scoring.  These styles are contested in International Competitions, such as the Olympics.  In the US this season runs from March through July, capped off with the US Marine Corps National Tournament in Fargo, ND.  To qualify for this National Tournament, the athlete must come in the top 3 in one of the styles at their State Tournament.  Junior Jimmy Benne did just that last weekend in Fort Worth, securing 3rd place in the Freestyle competition in the grueling 145# Junior Division, competing for NB Elite Wrestling Club under U17 US World Team Coach Steve Horton.  “Jimmy is a great example of perseverance and overcoming adversity,” Coach Horton said.  “Through hard work and discipline, he built himself into one of the best wrestlers in the state and the country.  Jimmy has also grown into a great leader and role model for the younger wrestlers in the room.”

The 2022 Marine Corps Tournament will run from July 15-22.  Although he has qualified for the tournament in past years, this will be Benne’s first time attending.  “This sport is much more mental than people think,” Benne said.  “Right now I have to prepare mentally and physically for Fargo and let it fly there.”  To prepare Benne continues to train at Reagan, Uplifted Performance, NB Elite Wrestling, and he will attend the two week Sammie “the Bull” Henson Dirty Dozen 1% Camp in Missouri.

Best of Luck!  #StrikeEm #WeAreReagan #WeReady #GrowTXWrestling #BeElite
