Junior Christeen Iwuala scored her 1000th point during the Lady Rattlers district win against MacArthur, finishing the game with a career total of 1004 after a 17-point, five rebound, two assist effort in the 60-28 win.
the 1000-point mark is not easy to accomplish for any high school player, and Iwuala is just the 8th player in Reagan Girls’ Basketball history to accomplish the feat. She is added to the list that starts with Rice University standout Wendy Knight, who holds the record with 1781 points. Current Vietnam Women’s National Team member Mailee Jones is second with 1467 points, international professional player Jessica Kuster is third with 1409 points, and four other Rattlers who have surpassed the mark round out the list: Dyana Offutt, Moriah Mack, Dru Tomaszewski, and Alexis Williams. What amazing company to be in!
Iwuala has also amassed over 700 rebounds in her career, and counting. Many high school basketball players don’t get to 500 rebounds, so again she is driving hard to some amazing career stats.
“I am so proud of Christeen,” said Head Coach Selena Winbush. “Making 1000 points is not something many people accomplish yet she has accomplished this as a junior. She has become more focused and is understanding the game more and more. I can’t wait to see what she accomplishes in her high school career!”
The MacArthur game gave all of the ladies an opportunity to play some meaningful minutes, with the starters playing about half the game. Several players coming off bench added points, including Jordan Bell with six, and Lauren Silvasy and Reese Stephens with four apiece.
The next district game against Madison has been postponed until a later date, unknown at this time. The ladies will take on state-ranked NISD Clark on December 22nd at 3:00pm at BAC. Come support your Lady Rattlers!
