“Its Bigger than Basketball”, Lady Rattlers Support One of Their Own on Way to 2nd Win

November 12, 2020

The Lady Rattlers handily beat the NISD O’Connor Panthers Tuesday night in a 58-27 rout, but there was a bigger meaning to this particular game.

Veteran Lady Rattler Senior  and Co-Captain Breck Bormet lost her mother Elizabeth suddenly on October  23rd.  Elizabeth was also the mother of Cade Bormet, a former Rattler baseball standout.  While nothing can ever ease the loss of a parent, Breck’s coaches and teammates wanted to show their support in a tangible way that Breck can see throughout the season.  The team surprised Breck with bright pink shoes that they will wear throughout the season to honor the memory of Elizabeth.

“This year our team has already had to work together to overcome loss and help one another in the process”, said Head Coach Selena Winbush. “To honor Ms. Bormet and the rest of the Bormet family, we decided to wear pink shoes, which was Ms. Bormet’s favorite color.  We are a family and we have an even stronger bond now.  We are rallying, with, behind and for Breck.”

While the girls played well and won, sometimes its bigger than basketball.  Our hearts go out to the Bormet family – the entire Reagan Athletic Community is with you all.
