Hernandez and Mussali take First Place at Charger Classic to lead Varsity Boys to Third Place Finish

Reagan Boys Varsity Wrestling took 3rd Place out of 23 Teams at the Charger Classic Saturday with a Team Score of 210 points.  Juniors Zarek Hernandez and Amir Mussali took FIRST PLACE in their respective 113# and 138# Weight Classes for a combined 75.5 Team points.  Hernandez went 5-0 with 4 pins and 1 tech-fall; Mussali went 4-0 with 4 pins.  Senior Ethan Morin (145#), Sophomore Blake Jensen (182#) and Freshman Jimmy Benne (120#) put together 66 Team points, each earning FOURTH PLACE.  Morin and Benne both went 3-2 with 3 pins, and Jensen went 3-2 with 2 pins and 1 major decision.

Reagan Girls Varsity took 11th out of 23 Teams with strong performances from the 7 ladies – impressive considering the Rattlers have 3 weight classes open with no wrestlers.  Junior Addison Garcia contributed 16 of the total 43 Team points with her SECOND PLACE finish.  Garcia went 4-1 with 2 pins and 2 decisions.

Junior Varsity came up big time Friday night with 11 wrestlers bringing home the hardware in the Madison Style brackets.  Noah Folsom (124-128#), Ian Lassandro (150-153#), Koleman Powell (132-135#) and Dominique Sanchez (120-127#) all took home FIRST PLACE.  Folsom, Powell and Lassandro went 3-0 with 3 pins and Sanchez went 3-0 with 2 pins and 1 decision.  Nick Castillo (114-120#), Myles Pryor (120-127#) and Chase Trinkle (117-123#) brought home SECOND PLACE medals.  Castillo went 2-1 with 2 decisions, Pryor went 2-1 with 1 pin and 1 decision, and Trinkle went 2-1 with 1 pin and 1 major decision.  Gage Pfeifer (85-113#) took THIRD PLACE, going 3-1 with 3 pins, battling back from a 1st round loss.  Joel Cardenas (132-135#), Jonathan Rivera (138-148#) and Josh Stephan (124-128#) each brought home FOURTH PLACE.  Cardenas and Rivera went 2-2 with 2 pins and Stephen went 2-2 with a pin and a decision.

A great start to the season for the Rattlers!  Next up for Varsity Boys and Varsity Girls is Clemens and Beeville Tri-Dual on Wednesday at 8:00am at Clemens High School – Strike ‘Em!
