Freshman Pitcher Shines in Varsity Softball’s Opening Week

February 17, 2024

Freshman pitcher, Ally Reyes, led the Reagan Varsity Softball team to a 4-2 start in the opening week of the 2024 season, racking up 30 strikeouts in 24 innings of work, with a 5.7 ERA.  After a tough district loss to Clark on Tuesday earlier this week, Reyes bounced back with a strong showing in a three-day Northside Tournament this weekend, collecting wins over Southwest Legacy (6-2), Stevens (2-1), Harlandale (13-6), and Pflugerville (15-3).  The freshman also earned herself some much-deserved hardware after being named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Rattlers received strong offensive support from multiple players in their line-up this week.  Leaders include: A’mari McMath (So.) with a .600 batting average and .800 on base percentage; Alyssa Burnett (So.) with 10 hits, including three doubles; Sadie Eckles (So.) with 10 runs batted in, four of those coming on a GRAND SLAM against Clark; and McMath and Macie Thiel (Jr.) with five stolen bases each.

The Lady Rattlers head back to the diamond on Thursday for the start of a three-day NEISD Tournament.
