May 11, 2023

It’s official! Coach Christina Nunez has been named the new girls’ soccer head coach after serving as assistant coach under Coach Kate McCollum for the past two seasons in addition to teaching Integrated Physics and Chemistry. Coach Nunez has a solid résumé of playing and coaching experience that will help her continue and build upon the girls’ soccer program’s legacy of success.

Coach Nunez began her soccer career at the age of 3. At MacArthur High School, she helped lead her team to two State Tournament appearances. She earned a full-ride to play soccer at Northwestern Oklahoma State University where she played for four years. Along the way, she earned accolades like all-district in high school and offensive player of the week and academic all-American in college.

After college, Coach Nunez wasn’t ready to hang up her cleats. She has played soccer semi-professionally for nine years and is in her fifth year playing with the San Antonio Blossoms. She also plays year-round on women’s and co-ed teams.

She began her coaching career as a student-assistant coach at Northwestern Oklahoma State under Coach Kasey Counts. She coaches club and academy for Classics Elite. She was the head soccer coach at Roosevelt High School for six years and has also coached middle school volleyball, basketball, and track and high school volleyball and cross country. For both of her seasons as assistant coach at Reagan, TASCO recognized her as Region IV Assistant Coach of the Year. Under Coach Nunez, the Reagan JV squad won district this year with an overall record of 14-1-0. They scored 81 goals and allowed only 1 goal against.

Coach Nunez is excited to coach at Reagan to be a part of the Lady Rattlers’ rich tradition of winning and being the best and looks forward to challenging herself to improve upon the program’s success. She looks to motivate her players to be creative and to think outside the box while being competitive and having grit. She will strive to inspire and push each team to perform at its best potential every season with the ultimate goal of winning State! She hopes her players will leave Reagan loving soccer more than when they started because “soccer is the world’s sport for a reason and can teach you so much if you have an open mind.”

Congratulations, Coach Nunez, and best wishes for much success on and off the pitch!
