What a two-day journey it was for the Reagan Varsity Tennis Team!
The action started Thursday, August 19, right here in San Antonio at the North East ISD courts, where Reagan faced Brandeis High School.
The Texas heat was intense, but if anything, it seemed to fuel our players. Match after match, they showed incredible resilience, determination, and energy. The doubles and mixed doubles lines came out strong, winning every match and putting Reagan on the board with a 7–0 lead. The team then continued into singles, finishing the day with an incredible 10–0 sweep! The excitement from the team cheering from the sidelines said it all. 🔥🎾
But the tournament wasn’t over.
The next morning, the team packed their gear and boarded the bus at 6:00 a.m. for Austin, ready to take on two of the top varsity tennis programs in Texas.
Reagan vs. Westlake
Matches began at 9:00 a.m., and the competition was intense from the very first point. There was some outstanding tennis, with multiple matches going all the way to super tiebreakers.
Reagan finished the doubles portion with an impressive 5–2 lead over Westlake.
After a short break, it was time for singles. Our players continued to fight through the relentless heat, pushing themselves point after point. Unfortunately, we came up just one game short, finishing with a heartbreaking 9–10 loss to Westlake.
But there was no time to dwell on it.
The last match finished around 1:30 p.m., and the team immediately rushed back onto the bus and headed to Westwood High School to face another powerhouse—and once again, one of the top tennis programs in Texas.
Reagan vs. Westwood
By 2:30 p.m., the team was back on the courts, warming up and preparing to compete again.
The heat was brutal, and after an already exhausting morning, the players were running on determination and heart. Muscle cramps and exhaustion began to take their toll, while several matches stretched close to three hours, including more super tiebreakers.
One of those marathon battles was the boys doubles match featuring Pablo Alvarez and Nathan Washington. After nearly three hours of intense competition, they fought through the heat, exhaustion, and physical demands to secure a hard-fought and incredibly proud win for Reagan! 🏆🎾
Their determination, teamwork, and refusal to give up were truly something to be proud of.
Despite the overall loss to Westwood, the team gave everything they had. They battled for every single point, competed against one of the strongest programs in Texas, and never stopped fighting—even when their bodies were telling them they had nothing left.
And perhaps one of the best moments of the day was seeing some of our recently graduated players return to the courts to cheer on their former teammates. Their presence, support, and pride for this team made the long, exhausting day feel like a total win. ❤️🎾
Rattlers, you make us proud every time you step onto those courts!
Keep fighting. Keep competing. Keep believing.
Way to go, Reagan Tennis! 🐍🎾
