Shobhana Spielmann has signed to continue her pole vaulting and academic career at Trinity University. She started pole vaulting in 8th grade, and immediately fell in love with the sport. Shobhanna’s coaches and family have been her biggest inspiration, keeping her focused and keeping her going. “My coaches have constantly pushed me to be better and believe in myself,” she said. “And my family has always supported me and motivated me to keep going no matter what.” Shobhana’s favorite pole vaulter is her younger brother whose work ethic and determination push her to be better every day. “Seeing his passion motivates me to not take anything for granted,” she added.
Shobhana’s favorite Reagan memory is when she triple PR’d at the Area meet in 2025 with her coaches, family and friends in attendance. “It was such a rewarding moment because all of my hard work finally seemed to pay off,” she said.
“Shobhana is an exceptional young woman—driven, poised, and measured. Her disciplined ability to embrace the process of growth will be an asset as she pursues her highest potential as an individual vaulter and as a teammate,” Reagan Head Coach Jen McHugh said. “We are confident that she will impact Trinity much in the way she has Reagan by modeling how to seek challenges, embrace pressure, and maintain a positive, forward-facing mindset.”
Shobhana will jump for Coach Thomas Dimitri who is in his 14th Season with the Tigers. “I really do believe Shobhana has the potential to be a program-changing athlete for us over the next four years,” Coach Dimitri said. “She has the potential to develop into an All-American vaulter and someone who will challenge conference and school records right off the bat.” He also recognized Shobhana’s value off the track. “Just as importantly, I believe she will have a significant impact on the team culture of our program and will thrive while also helping elevate the people around her,” he concluded.
